Karl Hector and The Malcouns music is remarkable: a perfect blend of Krautrock, Afro-beat, Ethiopian Jazz, and neo-psychedelia resulting in a Diasporic sound with retro-funk vibes showcased throughout all their limited edition, hand-silkscreened releases – on every collectors’ must-have list.

‘Ka Rica-Tar’ a blend of Middle Eastern, North African, and Western elements with obvious influences from legendary percussionist Mulatu Astatke and experimentalist Krautrock godfather, Can. The complete album of instrumental goodness best represents Karl Hector and The Malcouns unique sound and groovy beats.

The band, originally from Munich, Germany, is hardly ever found in the same location for more than a couple of days, as they're always busy touring around the world. Founded in 2001 by ambitious guitarist, producer, and songwriter, JJ Whitefield (Jan Weissenfeldt), percussionist Zdenko Curulija, and keyboardist Thomas Myland and has since functioned in lineups ranging from a quartet to a big band. Current members include Marja Burchard (vocals/keys and vibraphone), Al X Markovic (bass), Curulija, and Whitefield.
